The Romantic Rescue ACT ONE Focus on a room full of couples dining at a fancy restaurant. THe lights are low, but each table has a candle. The camera slowly zooms on a couple sitting at a table in the middle of the screen. As we draw closer, the general noise of everyone talking disappears allowing us to hear what the couple are saying. Woman: (in a haughty voice of sofistication) Christopher, you should kick your sister out of her apartment, so I can more in with you. Christopher: (in same haughty voice) But Victoria da'ling, you know that Kristine is my only living realative, and we are closer than even the two of us. Vicki: But how will we ever get closer? Chris: I don't know, but I'm sure I'll think of something. (Turning to the waiter) Check, Please. Vicki: Well at least would you consider kicking her out after this progect you two are working on? Chris: (Sighing) Yes, I'll consider it. The camera focuses in on a bolt being tightened by the closed end of a wrench. The camera zooms out to find a dark haired woman using the wrench. Her right hand slips in the tightening process and hits a sharp piece of metal. She cries out in pain. She sucks on the blood coming out of the wound. With her left hand she turns on a switch. Nothing happens. With a sigh she walks off screen. The camera stays focused on the machine. The machine looks like a door, a computer, and a TV connected by all sorts of metal and wires. The computer monitor turns on by itself. A set of lights on the door frame light up. The TV turns on. The keys on the computer keyboard start depressing as if someone was typing. Wierd combinations of charaters appear and scroll off the top of the computer monitor. The keyboard stops. The monitor stops. The TV shows a Dark castle. The door opens and a bright light shines from the doorway. A figure steps through the door. We are unable to see anything except his shape. The woman comes back into the room at this point. She sees what ever it is. Kris: What in the world? Figure in the Doorway: No, I'm not from this world. The camera swoops down and we get a full shot of her paniced face. She takes a deep breath. The changes to Chris at his from door. We hear Kris scream. Chris frantically tries to find his key, and then to put it into the lock. He opens the door and runs through the apartment to a door. The door is a push open, but he can't get it to move. There is a light shining from around the edges of the door. The light dies, and Chris opens the door. The camera follows Chris in. It is the same room Kris was in. The door is slightly ajar with only a little light coming through. The TV shows a grassy plain. There is a note stuck to a wall witha wierd looking knife. Chris pulls out the knife and grabs the note. He sets the knife down. The camera focuses in on the note. It says, "We have your sister. You have one day to come to us. If you are not here in a day, your sister will die! We will contact you when you get here." The camera switches to focus on his face. His face is in a state of anguish. Slowly his face turns into a smile and then a mischevious smile. He walks over to the phone. He picks up the reciever and dials a number he has dialed many times before. Chris: Hello, Victoria? (Pause) Hi. I've got a slendid idea. How would you like to go on a small adventure with me? (Pause) Yes, I agree it will bring closer together. (Pause) When? Oh, could you be over here at 8 tomorrow morning. (Pause) Great, and don't forget to wear light clothes and bring heavy ones just in case. (Pause) O.k. I'll see you here. 'Bye. Chris hangs up the phone. The camera moves to an overhead view of the room. Chris walks toward the door. The camera fades into daytime, and Chris finishes his approach. The door bell rings. The camera zooms to acrost the street from the front door. There is a limo with a cheuapher standing over it, polishing. At the door stands Vicki wearing pith helmet and a dark green and light green jumpsuit. Next to her is a large suitcase. The door opens, and Vicki waves away the limo which drives away as she enters the building. Chris comes out and takes the suitcase inside. The camera returns to the machine room. Vicki is already there, and Chris is just coming in with the suitcase. He drops the suitcase. Chris: I thought I said -- Oh, nevermind. You realize you can't take all this. Vicki: What do you mean? This has all my bare necesities in it. Chris: There is only enough room in my pack for one set of your heavy clothing. Unless you want to carry a pack, that's all that's coming. We can see that Vicki is not happy with this, but she agrees. Vicki pulls some clothes out of the suitcase, and hands them to Chris. He puts them into his small pack. He puts the pack on and heads for the door machine. Vicki: (Appaled) We're not going through there, are we? Chris: Victoria, do you see what's on that screen? (He points to the TV. She nods.) Well, that's where this door will take us. (He can see she's still reluctant.) It won't be an adventure if you don't come. She overcomes her fear. He opens the door, and steps into the light. She follows. The door closes behind them. The camera switches to look at the front of them. They are standing in tall green grassy field. The door is behind them. The four corners of the door rapidly aproach each other as the door gets smaller and smaller until it disappears. Vicki turns around and sees the door is gone. Vicki: How are we going to get back? Chris: I don't know. That's part of the adventure. Not knowing any better, the camera follows as they make their way through the grass. Finally they reach an area where the grass is short. Vicki: O.k. Let's stop here, I'm hungry. Chris: I wish we could, but I didn't bring any food. Vicki isn't happy about this. They continue until they come to a dirt road. To the right, they a road that runs to the horizon. To the left, they see three signs on a post on the corner of a dirt road intersection. They walk to the post. One sign pointing to the left says, "Sea." The sign pointing to the right says, "Cave." The sign pointing in front of them says, "Town." There is no sign pointing down the road they came from. Without conferring they head for the town. The camera faces the sun. Fade in the new sun a lot higher. The camera turns and looks at the pair. They are nearly at a small town. The camera switches to inside the town. It is crowded and colorful. The camera turns around until it faces the pair entering the town. Chris: I'm going to look for a room tonight. Do you want to help me? Vicki: No, thank you. I'll just look around out here at the food. Chris: O.k. Suit yourself.
